VISION: Faith in action and thriving together, we are empowered in learning
Whakapono, Whakapuāwai, Whakamana
At St Joseph’s School Waitara, we provide a nurturing, faith-filled environment where every child is known, valued, and supported to thrive. Grounded in our Catholic faith and Gospel values, we help tamariki feel safe, confident, and inspired to learn.
We believe learning should be joyful, hands-on, and meaningful. Our dedicated teachers work closely with whānau to support each child’s learning journey and build strong foundations in faith, literacy and numeracy.
Our modern classrooms, creative play spaces, and beautiful outdoor areas encourage curiosity, creativity, and connection with the world around us.
We celebrate diversity and offer a wide range of cultural and sporting opportunities, including kapa haka, Māori tikanga, EPro8, choir, and seasonal sports. These experiences help students grow in confidence, leadership, and identity.
Guided by our Gospel values of Whanaungatanga, Aroha, Kaitiakitanga, and Aumangea, we support every child to grow in faith, character, and learning.
At St Joseph’s, every child is empowered to learn, belong, and shine.
At St Joseph’s Waitara, our vision of faith in action and thriving together, where we are empowered in learning is brought to life through our WAKA Gospel Values. These values guide how we live and learn each day. Whanaungatanga, Aroha, Kaitiakitanga, and Aumangea shape the way we build relationships, show respect, care for others and our environment, and develop resilience.
Together, our vision and values support students to grow as confident, capable learners who live out their faith in practical and meaningful ways.
Grounded in the teachings of Jesus and guided by our Catholic faith, these values – Whanaungatanga (Relationships), Aroha (Respect), Kaitiakitanga (Responsibility), and Aumangea (Resilience) – shape our school culture every day.
These values are not just taught – they are lived. Whether we’re in the classroom, on the playground, at prayer, or working in our local environment, our tamariki are encouraged to:
Build positive, caring relationships with others
Show kindness, empathy, and respect
Take responsibility for themselves, others, and God’s creation
Face challenges with courage and a hopeful heart
Our Gospel values help each learner to grow not just academically, but spiritually, socially, and emotionally. They remind us that we are all part of God’s family, learning to live in love and truth, just as Jesus taught us.
Whanaungatanga (Relationships): Whanaungatanga is about building Christ-centred relationships where every person is known, valued, and respected. It reflects our call to live as one family in God’s love, creating a strong sense of belonging, care, and connection within our school community.
Aroha (Respect): Aroha is lived through love, kindness, and compassion, following the example of Jesus. It calls us to treat every person with dignity and respect, to care for one another, and to create a safe and welcoming school where everyone feels valued and included.
Kaitiakitanga (Responsibility): Kaitiakitanga calls us to be responsible stewards of God’s creation, caring for ourselves, others, and our environment. Following Jesus’ example, we take action to protect and respect our school, our community, and the wider world, honouring the gifts we have been given for future generations.
Aumangea (Resilience): Aumangea is about facing challenges with courage, hope, and trust in God. Inspired by Jesus, we persevere through difficulties, learn from setbacks, and continue to grow spiritually, socially, and emotionally with confidence and faith.
